What Happened to Peter Billingsley (Ralphie) from A Christmas Story?

Remember cute little Ralphie (Peter Billingsley) from the movie A Christmas Story? What ever happened to him? After the movie in 1983 he did some more acting. In 1984 Billingsley starred in an adaptation of The Hoboken Chicken Emergency with Dick Van Patten and Gabe Kaplan, a special Thanksgiving episode of the PBS series WonderWorks. He also appeared on a special edition of Family Feud and on the game show Celebrity Hot Potato.

In the late 80s his acting career slowed. He was a guest star on Who's The Boss?, Punky Brewster, The Wonder Years, and Highway To Heaven, and appeared in the film The Dirt Bike Kid, Carly's Web, Russkies and Beverly Hills Brats.

In the early 90s Billingsley played a would-be jock who gets hooked on steroids in the CBS Schoolbreak Special The Fourth Man. His next Schoolbreak Special appearance was in 1994's The Writing on the Wall, starring Hal Linden as a rabbi who teaches three boys about the horrors of intolerance after they are caught defacing his home, temple, and car with swastikas and anti-Semitic graffiti.

Also in the 90s he decided to start doing more work behind the scenes by producing, writing and directing. Known as Peter Michaelsen, he was assistant editor on the movie Knights. In 1994 Peter starred in, wrote, and directed (credited as Peter Billingsley) the short film The Sacred Fire, and credited as Peter Michaelsen in the executive producer function. Other behind the scenes work has included The Discovery Channel's A.R.K., The Adventures of Animal Rescue Kids, Patriot Son, The X Show, Made, and Elf, Dinner for Five Zathura, The Break-Up, and Iron Man; he also acted in the film, playing a scientist who works for Obadiah Stane. He also directed 2009's Couples Retreat.

Billingsley has also done a little acting recently in Sherman Oaks, Family Reunion: A Relative Nightmare, Elf, L.A. Heat, Four Christmases and No Deposit, No Return.

Billingsley has recently written a musical adaptation of A Christmas Story that is scheduled to open in Seattle during the second week of December 2010.

Before he was in A Christmas story he did a bunch of commercials. Billingsley's first acting role was as a two-year-old in a Geritol commercial. He went on to star in about 120 television ads throughout the 1970s and early 80s.He was probably best known for a series of commercials for Hershey's chocolate syrup in which he portrayed the character Messy Marvin.

He also played in several films like If Ever I See You Again, Paternity, Honky Tonk Freeway, Death Valley, Massarati and the Brain, and the made-for-TV movie Memories Never Die.

Matthew Adam Garber (25 March 1956 – 13 June 1977) was the child actor who played Michael Banks in Walt Disney's Mary Poppins.

What did he do after Mary Poppins you ask? Well, he only acted in one more movie after that. Matthew Garber again paired up with Karen Dotrice (his sister from Mary Poppins, Jane Banks) in the 1967 Disney movie, The Gnome-Mobile. They played the grandchildren of a rich lumber mogul (that's original) who stumble across a gnome forest and are asked to help keep the gnomes from dying off.

Well, if he didn't act, what happened to him then? I'm glad you asked. On June 13, 1977, Garber died of hemorrhagic necrotising pancreatitis at the age of 21. How did this happen? Well, he contracted hepatitis. According to Fergus Garber, Matthew Garber's younger brother (by eight years), it was probably the result of eating "bad meat" while traveling in India in 1976. Apparently it had already spread to his pancreas when their father brought Garber back to England the following year.

Christopher Michael Hewett (April 5, 1922 – August 3, 2001) was an English actor and theatre director best known for his role as Lynn Belvedere on the ABC sitcom Mr. Belvedere.

A devout Catholic, Hewitt served as a deacon at St. Victor's church in West Hollywood. During his later years, he suffered from arthritis and diabetes. On August 3, 2001, Hewett died of compilations from diabetes at the age of 79.

Peter Gardner Ostrum (born November 1, 1957) is a former child actor whose only film role was Charlie Bucket in the 1971 motion picture Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.

Ostrum was born in Dallas, Texas, U.S., but mainly raised in Shaker Heights, Ohio (a suburb of Cleveland), and was a student at Malvern Elementary School when he was named to the role. After the film Ostrum was offered a three-picture contract, but turned it down; he retired from acting and graduated from North Hunterdon High School in Annandale, New Jersey.

Willy Wonka remains Ostrum's only film credit after he decided that the life of an actor was not for him; instead, he received a veterinary medical degree from Cornell University and is now a successful veterinarian who specializes in cattle and horses in Glenfield, New York.

Ostrum has appeared on the real version of Where Are They Now: Child Actors on VH1.

In February 2009, Ostrum partnered with Dunkin' Donuts to help promote their new alternate slogan "You 'Kin Do It!" in Boston; he helped give out "Charlie Cards" (named for the MBTA'S mascot Charlie) to commuters on Boston's commuter system. When the picture was over, it was like it had never happened. I returned to school and by the time it was in theatres I'd changed a lot so I wasn't even recognised much. So, when I was, it was always a nice experience because people like 'Charlie'. He's a nice kid. My parents told me to look on it as an experience, which is what I did....My mom and dad were not at all stage parents. They made sure I had a clear choice about what I did for a living. I'm really grateful to them because being a veterinarian is very gratifying.

[On how he almost returned to performing]: When I made Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971), acting was something that interested me. It still does, but not as a profession. The only time I ever considered it again was when I heard they were holding auditions to replace Peter Firth in 'Equus' on Broadway. My thinking was that, perhaps I should at least present myself. Getting the part would have been like lightning striking twice, but I didn't get it. So I continued in school with the same majors - animal husbandry and veterinary medicine.

Do I regret turning down the movie offer? I don't think so. I love the job I am doing right now. Granted it is about as far away from Hollywood as you can get, but I have a feeling of self-satisfaction with it. I don't believe that I made the right choice or the wrong choice. I made a choice that fit what I wanted, and it shaped how life unfolded for me. Would have life been better if I took the movie offer? Maybe, but I'll never know, and it's something I'll never question.

Victoria "Vicki" Ann Smith-Lawson (Tiffany Brissette)

After the series ended in 1989, Brissette continued acting appearing in Parker Lewis Can't Lose and the 1990 television movie Beanpole. Brissette's last acting role was in 1991 in the television series Equal Justice. Since 2007, Brissette has worked as a nurse and resides in Boulder, Colorado.

Ted Lawson (Dick Christie)
There isn't a lot of information oh where he is now, but in 1999 Christie was a screenwriter for the movie Molly starring Elisabeth Shue.

I couldn't find any information on her. It seems she didn't do much acting after Small Wonder. She was briefly on the Morning Show with Mike and Juliet. She looked to be in great health. You can see the video clip above.

Jamie Lawson (Jerry Supiran)
According to one rumor, Supiran hates the Small Wonder show and refuses to even talk about it and has moved to New England where he does graphic design for a major food retailer. There are other rumors that he has been a roadie for the band Alice in Chains, was actually Billy Corgan from the rock band Smashing Pumpkins, or that he encountered financial difficulties and now works at a Taco Bell somewhere in California.

But perhaps the most accurate is that he lives in Laughlin, NV, and works at the Tropicana Express as a cook.
